As small business owners, especially those in the start up phase, preparing for a trade show can be a very scary and frustrating time. What do we take and how do we present it? Being an exhibitor at a trade show can be one of the most important moves your business makes, you’ll need a solid promotional plan for attracting visitors to your trade show display booth. By deploying strategies to maximize booth traffic, you’ll have greater opportunity to increase sales and achieve your show objectives. You’ll need to devise a strategy that makes your trade show display booth stand out from the crowd.

A trade show offers a unique marketing experience. Your goal will be simply to draw as much attention to your company's trade show booth as possible, so that you get a chance to show your products to prospective customers. Sometimes this requires marketing tactics that have nothing to do with the product you sell. Designing your trade show exhibits, training your booth staff, and creating a system for generating leads are essential pieces of every successful trade show or convention.
If you are going to represent your company at an upcoming trade show, it is important that your display is a professional representation of your business. Trade shows are not only a way to garner sales and clients, but a great way to make contacts. A trade show display consists of the physical screens, banners and other paraphernalia used to fill a temporary stall or booth at a trade fair or convention. The displays vary greatly in size, cost and complexity, but all are designed to visually represent a specific interest. You must be able to incorporate many features, including table skirts, second floor, banner stands, conference room, theater presentations, pipes and drapes, plasma screens, demo stations, and storage shelf products - and each type requires a unique timeline it stands alone. If you have enough room, create a small conference area where booth personnel and customers can sit to talk about details.

Most importantly, be friendly and inviting. Say hi to those that turn and look toward you or your booth. Strike up a conversation and be sure to have a short introductory speech ready. And…have fun!
